Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation 

 

The Department at a glance

         The PMR department started functioning as an independent department in the year 1974. The specialty primarily deals with rehabilitation of various types of disability, be it temporary or permanent. Patients with various types of physical incapacitation like Spinal Cord Injury, Stroke, various other neurological disorders, Amputations, Deformities, Congenital limb deficiencies and deformities, Chronic pain states such as LBA, Neck pain, Joint pain, Fibromyalgia etc. attend this specialty.

The department is functioning in a separate building on the eastern side of the MCH block.

Services Offered  

  1. Out patient service: Functions 6 days a week as per the following schedule

              Monday and Thursday                    8.30AM to 1 PM

Tuesday and Friday                      11 AM to 1 PM (only for new patients)

Wednesday and Saturday              10 AM to 1 PM

Special clinics: Low Back Clinic    Friday 11 AM to 1 PM    

  1. Inpatient service:  

      Sanctioned bed strength is 30, 20 for male patients and 10 for females. Usually

      accommodates 38 to 40 patients.  

  1. Artificial Limb Centre:  

Full fledged artificial limb centre is attached to the department which is capable of fabricating all sorts of aids and appliances for the physically challenged.    

  1. Physiotherapy:  

The physiotherapy section has many of the modern equipments for giving therapeutic services to the needy patients  

  1. Occupational Therapy:

Well equipped section suited to the rehabilitation of disabled individuals in their activities of daily Living (ADL)    

  1. Diagnostic Services:  

Electrodiagnostic tests including EMG, NCV and BERA  

   7.  Surgical Rehabilitation:  

Various rehabilitation surgeries are being carried out in the department on a regular basis.
