Established in 1957, Calicut Medical College was the 2nd Medical College established in Kerala. Since then, the institution has grown into a premier centre of medical education in the state with the introduction of P.G courses in 1970’s.  The vast and sprawling campus is spread over an extensive area of 270 acres located in the picturesque surroundings about 8 Kms, from the heart of the city of Calicut.

     Department of Biochemistry has held a pivotal role in the health care scenario of Calicut since then. Major facets of the department are academic, research and diagnostics. 

The Home Team:               

    The department is headed by Dr. M.G.Joseraj, since 2008 He has been the heart and soul of the department. He has thorough knowledge in Biochemistry and immense teaching skill. He is helped  by Dr.Geetha.P.A., Dr.Asha.E,  Dr,Jayarajan Karumarakkal, Dr.Muhammed Ashraf, Dr.Shibu,  Dr.Rajitha, Dr.Shaji, Dr.Rebeca and Dr.C,H.Asalatha.

    One tutor technician is in charge of the DMLT students. Two post graduates join every year for doing M.D and all the seats are filled for the last 5-6 years.                       

            In addition to teaching staff, non-teaching staff consisting of one  Assistant. one Chemist, one Clerk cum Typist, 19 Lab technicians, 7 Junior Lab Assistants and four sweepers are working in the department

Future Prospective:           

• Referral Molecular Genetics laboratory: This is our dream project about 25 lakhs is already sanctioned and we expect we will be able to start the laboratory during this financial year.  This advanced laboratory will be the only one genetics laboratory in the Government sector.
